What is a Scar Hearing?

A SCAR, or Small Claims Assessment Review, hearing is ansecond appeal that we MAY file if we feel it is warranted. It is up to Property Tax Drop to decide if it’s worthwhile to appeal that decision and appear at a SCAR hearing or wait until next year when you have a better chance at a better rate. You do NOT have to appear at your SCAR hearing, should your claim end up in a SCAR hearing, we will appear on your behalf.

Doesn’t get much easier than that!

Challenging Your Property Taxes Has Never Been Easier

  • All you have to do is take a few moments to submit your authorization form, granting Property Tax Drop the authority to file a grievance on your behalf.
  • You only get charged a portion of your savings for our services. If you don’t save, you don’t pay!
  • Your taxes will NEVER GO UP from challenging your current assessment.
  • We do not affect or get paid from any property tax exemptions – such as Basic or Enhanced STAR, Senior, or Veterans exemptions. Those are yours and will not be negatively impacted.
  • No one will need to come to your home or property at any point in the process.
  • The sooner you get started, the better! It gives Property Tax Drop more time to conduct research on your home! Your appeal MUST be filed between Jan 2, 2025 and March 1, 2025.

What is a Tax Grievance?

Simple, it’s a formal complaint you can file if you think you’re paying too much on your taxes.

It’s not based on your actual taxes, but rather the assessment. Your property gets assessed by the governing body, and it’s often done using minimal and outdated information. This results in you paying higher taxes than is necessary.

When you grieve your property tax assessment, you’re essentially saying: “This tax is too high, here’s the evidence that it’s too high, will you please consider re-assessing my property tax?”

With proper evidence, Nassau County is willing to take a second look, and if your evidence is sound, then they will lower your property tax assessment value.

This means YOU SAVE MONEY – often THOUSANDS of dollars!
